chatting facility in gmail is better than gtalk. gtalk does not hav conference facility.
I prefer "Pidgin" than gtalk.

google talk 1.0.0.105 is a specail version for China mainland without message encryption, if you upgrade to this version, all your chats may be seen by your network neithbor, administrator and your ISP.

Oh i think i just understood your point now you were trying to say that can it be used by gmail user only and that is not true.. anybody who has a gmail apps account or registers their account on google (u can register hotmail, yahoo or your own personal email account) from the link below and you shall be able to sign in..

laura by default when you sign-in to gmail you will be connected to gtalk (which is placed inside gmail titled chat or gmail chat)

The latest version is a beta version being tried and tested by google labs and can be had from here

Chat client for googles jabber network. Was using pidgin but kept disconnecting me. Could have been my wifi but this one seems more stable. Basic but does the job.

It is a very nice tool for chatting and everything. I wish it could be improved so that we can make calls to mobiles/fixed line phones as well as SMS to wherever we want.
Better still I wish it will come to a day gtalk supports web cams as well.
